Play time with my Belgian Malinos between grooming appointments, I have to supervise so she doesn’t open it with her nose😆 but it works well!!

Love this, my dog figured it out right away. The only problem is changing the sand paper. It's almost impossible to remove.

Extremely well-made with solid materials and a clever treat drawer to encourage use—brilliant concept!

I have worked my way up over the years to do his nails myself, in lieu if sedation at the vet, but i still sometimes only get 2-3 nails done before he starts to show signs of being anxious and we have to stop. This nail file definitely files his nails down and he 100% thinks its a game. He gets really excited when I go get it and he's wagging his tail the entire time. We're still building up to multiple paw swipes at a time, but I think this is a great alternative for us!

It’s amazing for my crazy pittie girl!! We have to work with her slowly but it’s super effective and no stress. She loves her new job!! You do have to hold it for a strong dog. She paws and she gets a treat. Very fun and nobody is crying!!

My dog loves it. She’s a pointer mix and is 58 pounds . She really enjoyed the positive reinforcement. At first it took a little while for her to get the concept so you might have to get creative, especially if your pup is afraid of their nails getting trimmed. Once she got it, it was a great way to get her nails down. The only thing I will say is that when she was first trying to get it, she was nibbling at the board so it peeled a little bit but for the price, I can’t complain. Would definitely recommend.

Easy to train our puppies to use. Now they vigorously scratch 2-3 times, and get a little treat. They love it! Only works for the front claws, but that is what we needed. My little loves this, I subbed to the yearly surface refills (like 9$ a year) and they send me the surfaces automatically. Makes doing nails so easy no more fights.

Finally I can shorten my dog’s nails without worrying about nicking him! He is food-motivated so he likes it when we play with this. Sometimes he only half-heartedly scratches but it still wears them down! It’s rough like 80 grit sandpaper and you can buy refills that stick on over the older surface when it gets worn off.…

My dog’s claws were too long, and the vet said he’d need sedation since the quick is so close to the end. I tried this today and he picked it up straight away — by scratching himself I know it’s not hurting him. Already such a relief compared to sedation- back ones aren’t bad as he wears them down during walks

I can’t explain how much stress this took off my shoulders!! Nail trims were always a fight. I was scared of hurting him and he was scared of the clippers. Now he just scratches, gets his treats, and we’re done.

I honestly didn’t think he would use it. He ignores most “interactive” stuff I buy. But once I put a few of his favorite treats inside, he figured it out within minutes. Now he goes to it on his own.

My biggest fear was hurting his paw pads. I checked after every session at the beginning, and they were totally fine. The board only files the nail tips when he scratches. No redness or irritation. Honestly feels much safer than clipping.

I was always terrified of cutting the quick by accident... I’ve made her bleed once before and I still feel guilty about it. This takes that fear away completely. It files gradually, so there’s no sudden mistake.

I like that it doesn’t feel like I’m “doing something” to him. He’s choosing to interact with it. That changes the whole dynamic

What surprised me most is how much his posture improved. I didn’t even realize how long his front nails had gotten until I saw how differently he was standing after a couple weeks.

We live in an apartment, so I can’t rely on pavement to wear his nails down. This has been the perfect solution. It keeps them short without having to make special trips anywhere.

Oh my goodness, this is going to save us hundreds. Our dog is 90+ pounds, a year old, and particular. While I can hold "hands" with him, mess with his toes, and he doesn't care, if he even sees clippers he freaks. Trying a dremel tool only made him scared for me when I brush my teeth because my electric toothbrush sounds too similar. Thankfully, his back nails he tends to wear down pretty well walking on cement, but his front nails grow straight out. That means they don't get in his way for a long time, but they also don't get worn down. He recently had to go to the ER vet and was sedated for an x-ray, after the x-ray they tried to trim his nails, but he was so against it that he immediately woke up. We have tried a sedated trim (Gabepentin, tramadol (I think), and melatonin all at once) at the regular vet, they managed one nail and that is it. They've determined he needs to be completely put under for a nail trim. I got this, and in 30 seconds I had him scratching it, no problem.

Review wording and ratings are preserved; current GentlePact bundles and policies may differ from earlier offers.
Good questions, honest answers
Everything you need to know.
Does it replace all nail trimming?
GentlePact is designed primarily for smoothing the front nails through natural scratching. Most dogs will still need their back nails checked and occasionally trimmed.
How long does training take?
Some dogs understand in the first session; others need several short practices. Keep each attempt upbeat, brief, and reward-led.
What treats should I use?
Use small, high-value treats your dog already loves. Tiny pieces keep the routine rewarding without overfeeding.
Is it suitable for large dogs?
Yes. The stable angled frame is designed for dogs of many sizes. Always place it on a level, non-slip surface and supervise training.
How often should my dog use it?
A minute or two a few times per week is enough for many dogs. Check the nails regularly and stop before they become too short.
When should I replace the scratch sheet?
Replace it when the surface becomes noticeably smoother or filing feels less effective. The three-pack keeps fresh sheets ready.
What if my dog is nervous?
Start by rewarding calm investigation near the board. Never force a paw onto the surface—choice and trust are the whole point.
How do I store it?
Fold the board flat and keep it in a dry place. Its compact bamboo frame slides neatly beside furniture or into a closet.
Ready for a gentler nail-care routine?
Let your dog participate, earn the reward, and build confidence one happy scratch at a time.
